In New York I was able to connect with model Harley Shamro. On the day of the shoot we met at Salon Jatel where she got her makeup done. We networked through Model Mayhem and, despite the snow, we chose to do an on location shoot in Brooklyn Heights. The chilling 28 degree weather plus wind was killer, after each pose we would both have to recompose, my mainly warming my hand, while her warming the whole body. Eventually we got way too cold and decided to stop for a cup of coffee at a local spot called Terresa’s Restaurant.

Getting back out there we hit one more location in the area but decided we couldn’t take it anymore. Fortunately, she knew some people in the area and we were able to get a penthouse on the 25th floor to shoot in. It has a beautiful view overlooking the neighborhood of Brooklyn Heights and in the distance, Manhattan.

Anonymous asked:

Jonathan Vincent
Jonathan Vincent answered:

I usually only work with models 18+, in some situations I shoot with models who are 16 and 17. Never younger than 16.

2014 NYC Teaser. Preview video of my trip to New York City. Full video will be out January 24th.

It was such a dream. Never thought I’d be shooting in a penthouse on the 25th floor overlooking Manhattan. This is only the beginning

Unfortunately the only shoot that I get to do while I’m in North Carolina but even so I’m glad it was with Emily Young. A country girl from Fayetteville, we connected through Model Mayhem and right away knew that we could both benefit by working with each other. We choose bright pink heels that shoot out and based the rest of her outfit off of those. Not familiar with the area I trusted her with the location, in which she chose the downtown area. Knowing I didn’t have my team with me meant that I had to be more verbal and talk to her to get her comfortable with the camera. From the start she was a very easy person to get along with and she trusted me with my work so we had no problem coming up with great exposures, If anything the problems came with exhaustion from running around. Fortunately, we stopped at a local coffee shop to get refreshments. Overall I’m greatly satisfied with the outcome. We both agreed that she needed to come to LA so we could shoot again in the studio. Hopefully in the future that all works out but for now here’s what we have.

The last photo shoot in 2013 that I did back in LA. On this shoot with Norwalk native Denise, we walked around the Echo Park/Westlake area. Being interested in assembling a team I also had AJ, a videographer from NoHo join us. It happened to be a very hot day and I’ll prepared for the sunny California weather in winter, my whole team took a beating, Nonetheless we came out with some pretty good final photos.

Being only her second time shooting ever, and our first time shooting together, we had to warm up to each each through conversation. Being the great city it is, we had no problem at all finding spots, but the problems came with positioning and lighting. We finally worked it all out and had a good time working and getting to know each other.

Some of the few digital shots I took at the amazing Street Meet LA presented by The Hundreds and Van Styles in Santa Monica, CA. Mostly shot with my Canon EX AUTO film camera but still being quite new to the whole 35mm film world, I managed to break the film apart from the roll when I tried winding it back after I took all of my exposures. Unknowing of this, I opened the back for a split second and realized what had happened. I closed it up and shot the rest of the day in digital. Later that day I put the film back in the roll in a darkroom.

Aside from that minor set back, meeting Van Styles was a great opportunity. When I first saw him in person, I froze in my tracks and had dropped my jaw right open. Not only was the joy in meeting a legend to the street wear world but also in networking with so many local photographers. Shout out to everyone I met that day and I hope that there is another Street Meet soon.

Back in California, I occasionally shoot out of a private studio in El Monte. This time I shot with Marlena Yvette, one of the more experienced models I collaborate with. Being my second time shooting her and coming off of a slump from living in New Mexico I decided to push the uniqueness and intensity of the vibe. Being Inspired from LA native, Gregorio Photo and Vogue-famed, Mert and Marcus, helped me to come up with the ideas.

The shoot was much different from others as I focused on taking less pictures and having the pictures I did capture come out with more quality. We pumped up the music in the studio both got in out zones and came out with these final exposures.

Last week in LA I shot with West Covina native Adri Aguilar. It was her first time modeling other than “selfies” and GNO shots. She was very friendly and easy to work with. We chose DTLA to shoot since it offered a variety of backgrounds especially to try out different poses with the newcomer. To improve on my skill I took the pictures in film but managed to get a couple shots with my digital camera, so here they are. The film shots will be up next month.
